WHAT Hangloose Adventure, Bluewater’s new Giant Swing. After launching England’s longest zip wire, a second high-octane outdoor activity has been introduced. From £30 per person. hangloosebluewater.com WHERE Bluewater Shopping Centre, near Dartford, Kent. Close to the A2, M2, M25 and M20; nearest station Greenhithe with regular bus link. EXPERIENCE The Hangloose Adventure village is by busy Bluewater, but as it’s amid mature trees, gravel paths, wooden fences and a lake you feel like you’re in a secluded spot.

There is plenty of free parking close by and good transport links to get you there.

While checking in for the Giant Swing – the biggest in Europe – at reception, you have your weight checked (maximum 120kg) so instructors can evenly balance the group on the swing.

Once you’re at the swing you can get the adrenalin pumping by watching the zip liners whooshing over the lake – then you’re led on to a platform which raises you up to the ride itself, consisting of a long bar with five cradles. You’re each fastened in to one then hauled up towards the top of the chalk face with a cable. Views are great – although the terror at this point is greater, I’d say.

Then after some staff amateur dramatics (I won’t spoil it for you) you’re suddenly unleashed. As you plummet down you feel like you’re going to fly out of the seat.

Even more terrifying is the fear you’ll crash into the cliffs behind you as you hurtle back up again.

But gradually the swing slows, the height reduces and your frenzied heartbeat starts to calm. It feels longer but it’s all over in a stomach-churning 90 seconds. QUIBBLES: Reception could be better signposted.

VERDICT A novel activity to add a thrill to a shopping trip – or simply a reason in itself to visit Bluewater. Shop then drop. 8/10
