School can’t afford to put radiators on

- BY MIKE WILK

A HEADTEACHER says he cannot afford to heat his school despite a pledge of extra Government cash.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced an extra £2.3billion a year for schools for the next two years, but Steve Hitchcock said it’s still not enough.

He said: “The money is for the next financial year.

“I am still going to have to keep the heating off and keep the children wrapped up over the winter.”

Parents at St Peter’s Primary in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, are chipping in for books and stationery.

The Department for Education said the £2.3bn will allow school spending to return to 2010 levels.

Mr Hitchcock added: “I am trying not to sound ungrateful but I think more work needs to be done.”
