Welsh earns a win thanks to World Cup
WALES may possibly be on the brink of elimination from the World Cup but the national language has emerged as a winner.
Fans in Qatar, known as the Red Wall, have been proudly singing Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau (Land of My Fathers) and Yma O Hyd (Still Here).
The World Cup has coincided with a surge in interest in the language.
A report from learning platform Preply said searches for Welsh courses were up by 267%.
Amy Pritchett, from Preply, said: “We want to raise awareness of the Welsh language to help preserve its cultural history and importance.”
Wales take on England in a must-win final World Cup group game in Al Rayyan tomorrow evening.
