Nicole Kidman shocked fans by casually dropping £82,000 on a hat once worn by
The Hours star, 55, right, was at the fancy charity bash Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in New York on Saturday when she bid for The Music Man’s prop.
To a chorus of screams, the auction audience swivelled in their seats when they heard someone bid a cool $100,000 on the headwear, only to find out it was Nicole. Wearing a smart black trouser suit, she walked down the aisle, gave Hugh, 54, a hug, collected her prize and said to him: “I love you, I love Broadway, and I love what they do at Broadway Cares” and put on the straw boater straight away, pulling it off, of course.
After the show Hugh, who starred in the 2008 film Australia with Nicole, said: “I’ve known Nic for almost 30 years. I’ve worked with her, I can tell you this is not a surprise. She’s one of the most generous souls I know.
“The generosity and love emanating from Nicole Kidman leaves me speechless. Thank you Nic for your friendship and support!”
Still, it was relatively small change for Nicole, who’s said to be worth an estimated £206million, so even if the hat ends up at the back of her coat stand, it’s all money very well spent.
