■ This is my mum and dad Gabriel and Bridie Mclysaght celebrating their engagement in 1956 at the Atlantic Ballroom in Tramore in the Republic of Ireland. Mum was 20 at the time and my dad 22. They moved to Yorkshire in 1957 for work. Dad worked as a machine tool painter for Warner & Swasey and mum at Mackintosh’s in Halifax. Mum was a volunteer with the Order of Malta Ireland and I followed in her footsteps by becoming a paramedic. Sadly, we lost dad four years ago but Mum, 87, still reads the Mirror every day.
