HAPPY SHAPPY’S DAVIS GLORY

-

CANADA made history by winning their first Davis Cup title with victory over Australia in Malaga.

Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Alex de Minaur 6-3 6-4 to give Canada an unassailable 2-0 lead after Denis Shapovalov (left) rolled past Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-2 6-4.

Seven years after leading Canada to the top of junior tennis, AugerAliassime, Shapovalov and their team-mates finally got to lift the top team trophy in their sport.

Shapovalov said: “We wanted to grow up and be part of the team and try to help the country win the first title. So everything is just so surreal right now.”
