GAT’S YOU FINISHED NOW PIVAC, ‘IT’S NOT BEEN ACCEPTABLE‘
WALES are ready to turn to former head coach Warren Gatland – with Wayne Pivac’s days in charge numbered. Gatland (left) is expected to be parachuted in on a near 12-month contract to lead Wales into another World Cup.
Fellow New Zealander Pivac (right) will head to France today to look at facilities on a World Cup scouting mission and will return later this week to complete his
autumn review with his WRU bosses. And Pivac is expected to be told his three-year reign is up – with predecessor Gatland lined up as his replacement.
Former Wales and Lions great Jamie Roberts admits Pivac’s time is up. He said: “Test match rugby is about winning, regardless of how you play, it’s a results-driven business, it’s professional sport.
“This year we have lost at home to Italy and Georgia, for the first time in our history. If we want to dine at the top table of international rugby, that’s not acceptable.
“It’s just not been good enough. If that’s happening this year, what can we expect to happen at the World Cup next year?”
Saturday’s second-half collapse when Wales let slip a 21-point lead against a makeshift Australian side appears to have been the final straw.
Wales somehow went on to lose 39-34 – paving the way for Dragons chiefs to send an SOS to Gatland.
