Sunak ‘ready for U-turn on wind farms’
RISHI Sunak may be ready to axe the effective ban on new onshore wind farms.
Energy firms can build at sea but strict rules since 2014 have halted new landbased projects in England.
In the race to be Tory leader, the PM ruled out more onshore wind farms – but he now faces a revolt from MPs including Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.
And Business Secretary Grant Shapps yesterday signalled a climbdown, saying: “We already have quite a lot of onshore wind.
“There will be more, particularly where communities are in favour of it.”
He added that projects “need local consent”.
Asked if Mr Shapps was signalling a U-turn, the PM’s spokesman said: “You’ve got our position.”
