Bored office workers can fill skills hole
BORED office staff are being targeted in a bid to recruit an extra million construction workers.
A campaign called Trade-Up aims to plug a chronic skills gap by 2030.
Consultancy Capital Economics says the UK will need 142,000 new electricians, nearly 100,000 more carpenters and 80,000 plumbers.
This is due to growing demand for building work, repairs and energy efficiency drives.
The campaign is also targeting hospitality and retail workers and troops.
Richard Harpin, founder of home repairs giant Homeserve, said: “We need to get serious about skills.
“Retraining is our greatest opportunity to create the workforce we need today.”
