A ‘WEIRD’ WEATHER FORECAST

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Doha

ENGLAND’S medical staff have revealed the players are facing “weird” weather conditions.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate revealed that temperatures and humidity levels at pitch side are still high even for 10pm kick-offs in Qatar.

England will face Wales in the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium tonight, which is in more central Doha.

But the Al Bayt Stadium – where they could end up playing if they win the Group – is out in the desert.

Players complained after their draw with the United States that it was hot and humid even though it was cool in the stands and Southgate (above) feels the conditions are a big challenge.

He said: “It definitely felt hotter pitch side than it did for the first game, which was strange given the kick-off time. There is something around humidity with that, I think. The scientists have got some weird reading that I don’t understand!

“They were saying the heat wasn’t worse but the combination of other factors was. It is something that we have to consider. We are across it all.

“The feeling was that it was hotter in the stadium the other night. It feels like it has been hotter the last couple of days, too, rather than getting cooler. We have got to hang around a little bit longer for it to drop.”
