VALENCIA WORRIES ALF

- FROM MARK JONES

in Doha ECUADOR tinkerman Gustavo Alfaro said more changes could be made for today’s decider against Senegal.

But there is one alteration the Ecuador boss fears he will have to make.

Alfaro has changed his formation throughout their opening two games but talisman Enner Valencia (above), who has scored all three of Ecuador’s goals, is a doubt with a knee injury. “The approach from the players has made it very easy for me,” said Alfaro, when asked about the switch in systems.

“The players can do both systems and implement them.

“I explain things, they put it into practice, and they are convinced it is good for them. One match we’ll do one thing, the next another.

That’s where the magic lies.” Alfaro will be hoping to conjure up the point Ecuador need to reach the last-16, whatever formation he uses, with a draw good enough for the South Americans to qualify. He insists they’ll be playing for more than that against Aliou Cisse’s Senegal. On Valencia, who left the pitch in the 90th minute of the Dutch draw and could start on the bench, he said: “Enner had a knee sprain but his ligaments are okay.”
