Let’s do this together

-

I’ve seen more of The Dark Lord in the last two weeks since her gaming computer broke, than I have in the past two years.

Like many kids her age, when she got her first teenage spot, she disappeared into her bedroom, never to be seen again.

But now she hasn’t got a telly or gaming computer in her room, she’s been hanging around wanting to talk to me, or, perish the thought, watch telly with me.

In fact, I’m beginning to regret her PC being broken and I’ve asked the computer doctor to get a wriggle on, or I’ll be forced to chat to my own child over the Christmas holidays.

OK, I’m kidding, it’s been great having her around again, except when it comes to watching TV together. I quite like to see what’s on that day on terrestrial channels, while she prefers to stream juvenile YouTube videos, but we’ve been trying to watch shows we both like on Netflix.

Last night she decided we would rewatch the first series of Bridgerton, but this time, sitting next to me on the sofa.

I had seen it on my own when it first came out, but now with the added discomfort of a teenager sniggering at Simon, the Duke of Hastings’ hot bod and Daphne’s excruciating gasps, I didn’t know where to put myself!

The worst thing is she also insists on putting subtitles on – a habit she’s picked up from doing two things at the same time, like scrolling on her phone and watching videos.

It’s very off putting when watching anything, but also doubly embarrassing when His Lordship is explaining to Daphne the ins and outs of a… erm… full married life, and it’s in big letters across the bottom of a 42in TV screen.

“Oh my eyes, my eyes,” I wailed, and got up and went to start clearing up after dinner. If this carries on, our kitchen will be spotless.
