Boot Hancock out of politics

-

■ I USUALLY enjoy I’m a Celebrity but this year it turned into the Matt Hancock show. Who on earth voted for him after what he did as health secretary in the pandemic?

They must have the memories of a goldfish. I can’t understand how he managed to come third.

He came across as a horrible man trying to get his telephone number into every camera shot just to get public votes.

Thank goodness the rest of the camp mates cottoned on and saw him for who he actually is. It’s a pity they can’t leave him in the jungle.

We don’t want him back in this country and certainly not in Parliament. Hopefully, the other contestants on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins will give him the kind of treatment he deserves.

■ Thank goodness Matt Hancock didn’t win I’m a Celebrity. His appearance on the show was a slap in the face for his constituents and he didn’t deserve the public’s good will after the damage he did during the pandemic. He should have been thrown out of politics a long time ago. Former Lioness Jill Scott deserved to be crowned queen of the jungle. Congratulations to her and to runner-up Owen Warner. ■ Taking politics out of the equation, would it be fair to say Matt Hancock exceeded expectations when it came to completing every nasty Bushtucker Trial put before him? Compared with the other camp mates, he didn’t come across as particularly fit which made it even more surprising when he initially faced up to the daily ordeal without complaint. Give the man a break, he’s earned it! Brian Davies

■ Matt Hancock still seems to be oblivious to what people’s real feelings are about him even though it’s so obvious. He’s either really conceited, or just thick-skinned.

He appears to think all is forgiven and he has a great future ahead of him on TV.

He most likely thinks he will be in great demand and that Strictly will want him next year. I certainly hope that isn’t the case.

■ So, now we know why Matt Hancock did so well on I’m a Celebrity – he had a PR team promoting him on TikTok.

They posted 24 videos of him, including a step-by-step guide on how to vote for him up to five times on the app. I fear this may start a trend for future reality TV shows with the people with the best social media campaigns being the ones that do well.

■ I’m no great fan of Matt Hancock but I do realise that people make mistakes. And while he made a huge one in the pandemic, he’s human like the rest of us.

It would seem from the I’m a Celebrity results that a large section of the British public feel the same way I do.

My mother-in-law died during the pandemic so I understand the pain and loss experienced by so many families – but I suspect there are few who could claim they adhered strictly to all the rules during the pandemic.

■ It seems if you are judged to be popular on a TV reality show then any past failings are forgotten and there is a fortune up for grabs. This is certainly the case for Matt Hancock. No need for skills, effort or training, just eat a few fish eyes and the world is your oyster.
