Let’s do this together
Another week… another day in isolation at school for The Cooler King aka The Dark Lord, who’s spent more time in solitary confinement than Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.
She’s always getting caught and punished, but unlike the war movie’s character, she’s always trying to wangle her way out of it.
She failed to confess that her “joke” backfired in class last week, and I got a phone call from her teacher on Wednesday to tell me that a pupil had fallen off his chair after his desk legs mysteriously gave way.
Loosening the table’s metal fixings was straight out of the Dennis The Menace school of practical jokes, and luckily nobody got hurt. But TDL and her mate were rightly pulled up by the head of year and slammed in the cooler (school library) for a day.
“I have apologised and he says he forgives me,” said a very chastened TDL after I gave her the hairdryer treatment.
Then, because there’s always a but, she added, “But he’s extremely annoying and is always teasing me.”
I held up my hand. “I don’t want to hear it. You do the crime, you do the time.”
Halfway through the next day while she’s in kiddie lock-up, I got a call from the school nurse to say TDL was unwell and needed to come home.
“She’s got a really bad cold and sounds awful,” she said.
“Hmmm… sounds like she’s allergic to her punishment,” I said, unsympathetically.
The little minx might have thought she’d managed to escape her punishment, but when she went back in yesterday, the rest of her sentence was still waiting.
“It’s not fair – they still made me do the hours I missed,” she grumbled.
Serves her right!
