DUTCHMAN ARNE WON’T SLOT INTO WHITES HOT SEAT
ARNE SLOT has become the latest boss to snub managerless Leeds ahead of tomorrow’s visit of rivals Manchester United.
The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday before placing Michael Skubala in charge for Wednesday’s thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
Leeds now face their sworn enemies again at home as their search for Marsch’s successor continues.
Yet Slot announced yesterday he will not be jumping ship from Dutch side Feyenoord, who are chasing a historic treble.
The 44-year-old, whose side are top of the Eredivisie, said: “It is true that I will stay with Feyenoord, I can confirm that.
“That is clear, the fans do not have to be afraid. It was a compliment that a club like Leeds was interested, but we are doing something great with Feyenoord.
“We are in a great position in the league, the cup and in Europe. There is no disappointment. It’s certainly not a punishment to stay here.”
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan was also on Leeds’ shortlist but signed a new contract to stay with Albion this week.
All Leeds’ other targets are understood to be in work, including Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola.
The Spaniard is masterminding an outstanding campaign for the Madrid-based outfit, who are fifth in La Liga. Agreeing a compensation deal over Iraola’s contract has proved a sticking point in luring the 40-year-old to Elland Road.
Iraola is contracted until June and held talks in Madrid with Leeds’ Victor Orta this week, yet hope remains that a deal could yet be struck.
The Whites are working frantically behind the scenes to appoint a new man before next Saturday’s trip to Everton.
Caretaker boss Skubala, who had been working as
Leeds’ Under-21s manager, said: “I’m just doing the best I can do in this short time.
“I’m not planning for anything other than day-to-day communication with the board. I’ve always had the philosophy, look after today and tomorrow looks after itself.
“Hopefully people that have worked with me or people that have led me will say good things and that’s what’s most important.”
Skubala (right) admits he is enjoying his unexpected moment in the spotlight and added: “I’ve been preparing for 20 years and I didn’t take any other angle on that.
“I’ve loved the exposure, is that allowed?”
Left-back Pascal Struijk (concussion) is absent tomorrow, but Liam Cooper, Marc Roca and Luis Sinisterra will all be assessed.
