THERE MUST BE MOORE TO COME

It’s been tough but results will turn vows Town boss

- BY IAN WINROW

DARREN MOORE insists he was under no illusions about the task facing him at Huddersfield.

And, despite a torrid start to the season, the Terriers manager says he still has the full backing of club owner Kevin Nagle (right).

Moore has overseen just one win in seven games since he succeeded the popular Neil Warnock in September.

The 4-0 home defeat by Cardiff City – described as “unacceptable” by Nagle – was followed by a 4-1 loss at Yorkshire rivals Leeds (right) to ramp up the pressure ahead of today’s clash with Watford.

But Moore insists he is steering Town in the right direction. He said: “I knew the work that was here before I took it on. It’s just about getting on and doing that work and doing it to the best of my ability. All the jobs I’ve had have been difficult situations and I don’t envisage this being any different. My job is to continue to work extremely hard. And then the results will follow, I’m sure.”

Asked about his conversations with American moneyman Nagle this week, Moore said: “The chairman is a top guy in terms of what he wants for the football club.

“We’re constantly on the phone. We know the situation that we’ve been in. It’s not been the best of weeks but we continue to work and talk together.”

But Moore is well aware he needs results to improve quickly, starting with the Hornets clash today.

He said: “I understand the industry I’m in. I’ve been in it a long time and I know it’s a results industry.

“We are just in a spell that will require everybody to pull in the same direction. We want to be a club that looks up and not down. Changing the mentality is something we’re tasked with.”

Huddersfield are lying in 21st spot in the Championship table, just five points above the relegation zone. But a victory today would take them level on points with this afternoon’s visitors Watford, who are 16th.

Worryingly for Moore, his side have won just three of their 14 leagues games this term and after today face three away games in their next four fixtures. And no one has conceded more goal than their tally of 27.
