AJAYI: WE CAN MAKE THE GRADY

- BY JANINE SELF

AMBITIOUS West Brom defender Semi Ajayi is refusing to put a cap on this season’s aims.

Ajayi, who came off the bench to cement an impressive win against Hull with the third goal, has been frustrated by injury.

But what he has seen from the sidelines convinced him Albion can set their targets high, especially with talisman Grady Diangana improving match by match.

Ajayi said: “The target is to finish as high up the table as we can. We’re not going to limit ourselves and put a ceiling on it. We just want to take every game and dive into it 100 percent.

“It was good to be out there and to contribute to the win, I’m delighted.

“I don’t get injured very often so I got a bit frustrated but I just put in as much work into my body to make sure I come back at my best.

“All the boys know what Grady is capable of. He’s been adding numbers to his game as well, goals and assists. Long may that continue as he’s going to be a massive player for us.”

Ajayi benefitted from Diangana’s assist to wrap up victory over a Hull side who paid the price for an early mistake by Jean Michael Seri. Jed Wallace took advantage with Matt Phillips (above) and Ajayi the second-half scorers.

Albion are fifth and on a run of one defeat and seven clean sheets in 10 games. Hull skipper Lewie Coyle denied them an eighth.

Tigers boss Leroy Rosenior was not helped by a growing injury list.

City’s Scott Twine, who felt he should have had a penalty for a challenge by Darnell Furlong, said: “What we’re really frustrated with is they weren’t so much better than us, it was us switching off and being our own downfall.”
