NO SLOUGH OF DESPAIR WITH SCOTT
SCOTT DAVIES put Slough in sight of the FA Cup second round before Grimsby forced a replay.
Player-manager Davies (above) fired the National League South side ahead with a 28th-minute free-kick.
And they were 15 minutes away from glory before Danny Rose levelled for League Two Mariners, with a trip to Oxford awaiting the eventual winners.
Davies said: “I’ve been quite fortunate down the years to score quite a few free-kicks and scored a few in the last few months.
“It’s a bit of a strange feeling. I think we should have been two or three goals up in the first half so I feel like it’s an opportunity missed.
“We put up a pretty good fight for a non-league side against a professional outfit and I’m so proud of the boys. It’s been a great day for the club.”
League One FLEETWOOD avoided an upset when they came from behind to win 2-1 at non-league KIDDERMINSTER.
Harriers went ahead through Bailey Hobson but Josh Earl and Shaun Rooney turned things around for the Cod Army to set up a trip to Cambridge.
Fleetwood boss Lee Johnson said: “We were very professional after we went a goal down. Whoever you get next sets up the third round so the motivation is very clear.”
Never-say-die DERBY staged a dramatic late comeback to draw 2-2 at League Two CREWE.
Courtney Baker-Richardson and Elliott Nevitt put Alex two up but Rams winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing pulled one back in the 89th minute.
And skipper Conor Hourihane swept a cross high into the net (below) in the third minute of added time to clinch a replay – and the chance of a second-round home tie against Bristol Rovers.
