THIS DUTCH SIDE BETTER THAN THE ONE THAT BEAT ENGLAND IN 2009

- EXCLUSIVE FRoM DEAN WILSON

EngLanD will have to face a Dutch side far better than the one that gave them their first international win at another World Cup.

In fact, England have lost both T20 matches they have played against the netherlands – in 2009 and 2014 – but have won all six of their oDI clashes so far.

and Jos Buttler’s side will be desperate to make it a lucky seven over the men in orange in Pune tomorrow after a dismal World Cup.

But ex-Holland and Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate (right), the architect of their 2009 T20 win at Lord’s, reckons they will have their work cut out against his old team-mates who have far more belief than he did 14 years ago.

He said: “My memories of that was just the elation of that group of players beating some of the names in that England side, like Stuart Broad and James anderson.

“But not in my wildest dreams did we think we could win that game. It was a total mismatch, whereas now, the Dutch side are far more competent and far more prepared.

“They’ve shown in this World Cup some good performances, not only winning, but I think they’ve been pretty consistent throughout.”

The Dutch shocked South africa and beat Bangladesh and another two points over England would all but secure their place in the Champions Trophy due to be played in Pakistan in 2025.

Top Dutch wicket-taker, Bas de Leede, who has 11 scalps so far, said: “There is added pressure for them now on this game.

“For us it’s a privilege to be playing for a spot in the Champions Trophy, for them it’s expected.”
