We’re going the distance..

-

WEST College Scotland puts learners in control of their studies – and its Distance Learning Unit is an example of where this works very well.

The college is aware that, in today’s busy society, where there don’t seem to be enough hours in the day, flexibility is a key issue when it comes to learning.

So the college’s Distance Learning Unit is expertly run to provide students with access to learning at a time and place to suit individual circumstances.

The college works extremely hard to help individuals choose a course that suits them best.

Joan Archibald, head of innovative learning at West College Scotland, said: “Distance learning allows you to grow your skills and enhance your job prospects without putting your career on hold.

“It enables you to return to education at your leisure, no matter what your lifestyle and commitments are.”

It is an assurance many potential students are pleased to hear.

West College Scotland allocates each student a dedicated personal tutor who is a specialist in that chosen area.

More importantly, support doesn’t end when students complete a course, as student services and distance learning staff are always happy to advise further on lifelong learning options with the college.

A current student with Distance Learning Scotland – the college’s virtual campus – shared her learning experience.

She said: “I’d started a family not long after I’d left school and, before I knew it, five years of my life had passed me by.

“I really wanted to go back to college but I was apprehensive about getting back to the books and fitting in study with young children.

“I wish I hadn’t worried so much as I found the whole learning experience just fantastic.

“It’s really helped me gain confidence, gain qualifications and, now the kids are a bit older, I’m applying to go back to college full time.”

Many Distance Learning Scotland courses can lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

But you do not need to follow this programme structure if you are studying purely for personal interest.

The college has a variety of distance learning courses available, such as business and accounting, childcare, computing, construction, essential skills, health and safety, health and social care, hospitality, maths, science and social sciences, photography, and training and development. ● To find out more about West College Scotland’s extensive choice of courses, call Distance Learning Scotland on 0141 581 2319 or visit www.distancelearningscotland.com
