JAMBOS 2006 v DONS 2014
DEBATE WHO IS BEST OF REST? Aberdeen may have racked up the points but Hearts were a real class act
IN the grand scheme of things it didn’t matter.
Adam Rooney’s stoppage-time leveller for Aberdeen at Dundee only served to upset the hapless punters who had taken a flutter on the Dens men. Not that we’re bitter ... The point didn’t change anything in the table. No one will be able to shift the Dons out of second spot without the aid of a nuclear warhead.
But the late, late strike did throw up an interesting statistic.
Aberdeen have now amassed the most points for any side outside Celtic or Rangers since the SPL was dumped on our doorsteps in 1998.
They overtook the Hearts side of 2006 and kickstarted a cracking pub debate. Get the pints in and we’ll get stuck in.
Which team is better – the Dons of 2015 or the Jambos class of 2006?
Who would win if the sides squared up on the pitch?
It’s all hypothetical of course. It’s like asking who would come out on top in a fight between Superman and Spiderman, whether you’d rather lose an arm or a leg or Kylie’s botty versus Brook’s Bristols.
But, hey, it’s all good fun so let’s go with it.
There’s no doubt Hearts’ team of nearly 10 years ago was something special. They were top of the league and unbeaten under George Burley until Mad Vlad Romanov started meddling.
Poor George got the tin tack with his side top of the table and Graham Rix was an inexplicable replacement as the submarine commander nuked his own club’s title hopes.
Gorgie punters were left to wonder what might have been without the Russian roulette but still managed to split the Old Firm which was no mean feat at a time when the Glasgow two were involved in mega-money star wars.
Craig Gordon, Steven Pressley, Paul Hartley, Andy Webster and Rudi Skacel.
That was a heck of a Hearts squad. But what about the current
