DRIVING dads are getting cooler music tastes – to avoid the kids saying “are we there yet” on long car journeys.

Three-quarters of the nation’s fathers are tuning in to the likes of Pharrell Williams, Lady Gaga, One Direction and Idina Menzel in a bid to keep their children quiet.

With bank holiday travelling this weekend, a poll by Skoda found that dads let their kids choose the music on journeys to ease the boredom.

But in doing so, more than a third of dads revealed they can now sing the words to Pharrell’s Happy while more than a fifth sing along to Gaga’s Poker Face.

Meanwhile almost as many are well versed in the lyrics of Let It Go from the smash-hit Disney movie, Frozen. Let It Go is shown to be a particular favourite, with more than half of those surveyed saying that it’s their top choice among their kids’ collections.

And of the three quarters of British fathers who sing along with their offspring in the car, 18 per cent admit to listening to their children’s music when motoring alone.

Comedian and dad-of-two Dom Joly said: “Family car journeys can be hell unless you’re prepared. One brilliant way of minimising the constant refrains of ‘are we there yet?’ or ‘Daaaaad, I’m bored’ from the backseat is to enjoy a bit of family ‘car-aoke.’

“Sadly to get my kids involved, I have to go mainstream. So I’ve developed a bit of a thing for Pharrell and Lady Gaga and enjoy a carful of singing, happy children.”

The research also found how much car singalongs are enjoyed by the family.

Half of dads see it as a key way to bond with kids, while 63 per cent of chi l dren thought their dad was funny f o r learning the words to cheesy classics.
