Spot after fixing costly problem

-

REVVED-UP Richard Lawson has thanked a speedway legend for discovering a fault with a £20 needle that cost him £10k in repairs.

The Whitehaven wonderkid has been baffled by contrasting fortunes this season – flying high for Elite League club Lakeside but toiling for the Glasgow Tigers.

But after a brainstorm with Aussie icon and former World No.3 Phil Crump they unearthed a carburettor problem.

Lawson said: “I’m really annoyed. I’ve had one blown engine in the last three years with Phil as my tuner. Yet I’ve had five engines blow already this season.

“It has cost me a fortune in engine repairs let alone the points I’ve lost. It’s probably around the 10 grand mark which is so gutting – in fact I don’t even want to think about how much it has Lakeside. I’m indebted to Phil for discovering the problem and to Grant Henderson Tankers for helping me sort out my new engines.

“Hopefully now I’ve discovered the problem I can get back up to full speed.”

Tigers welcome Newcastle to Ashfield on Sunday and Lawson admits he is determined to finally live up to his “marquee signing” tag and regain his No.1 spot ahead of his side’s televised trip to Peterborough next month.

He said: “It’s great we’re back on Sky TV at Peterborough. I love it round there as I rode for them when they were in the Elite League.

“I certainly want to do better than I did against Sheffield last week.

“My engines were playing up big time and I simply had no power and eventually it blew in Heat
