Justin: I’ll be wizard Gary
NEW Dundee United winger Justin Johnson is aiming to shine like former fans’ favourite Gary Mackay-Steven.
Johnson signed for Jackie McNamara’s side last week on a free transfer from FC United of Manchester and made his debut a few days later when he came off the bench against Inverness.
The 19-year-old is known for his pace and trickery and hopes he can follow in the footsteps of MackaySteven who shone for the Tangerines before signing for Celtic back in January.
Johnson said: “Gary Mackay-Steven was a great player for Dundee United.
“Hopefully one day I can be like him.
“He is a fantastic player for Celtic now and probably for Scotland in the future.
“The fans can expect lots of running and lots of pace from me. I like to entertain and I love to get at defenders from wide.
“If I can just have a little bit of the career he had at United then I will be more than happy.”
Johnson is highly-rated at Tannadice and was thrilled to be handed his debut in the Highlands so soon after putting pen to paper.
He said: “It’s all happened so fast for me.
“The move came about as a shock and then to get my debut so soon after was astonishing.
“I’ve gone from FC United in the Northern League and playing for my college to here in the top division in Scotland.
“It was a huge honour to run out in a Dundee United shirt last weekend.”
