Cesc says sorry for seeing red in friendly

- DAVID MADDOCK

CHELSEA star Cesc Fabregas has apologised for the tackle that earned him a red card in the International Champions Cup clash with Liverpool.

But he insists ref Baldomero Toledo lost control of the glamour friendly which the Blues won 1-0 in Pasadena thanks to Gary Cahill’s goal.

After the match Fabregas went into the Liverpool dressing room to apologise for his flying, stamping tackle on defender Ragnar Klavan.

When asked if his dismissal was fair he said: “The way the ref was giving yellow cards, probably yes.

“In the Premier League you could probably get away with it. I got there late, he got a toe to the ball. It was a hard tackle.

“We want to win every game and everything becomes very competitive but the ref was giving cards all over the place.

“Sometimes when you do that as a ref you lose a little feeling of what is happening.

“If you give one that is 50-50 or 40-60 then you have to give the next one again and it became a little bit of a farce.

“He didn’t have the game under control.”

Liverpool’s Marko Grujic was taken to hospital with suspected concussion after colliding with Bertrand Traore.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “He can’t remember anything. That’s not too cool.”
