WE’RE MUDDLY IN LOVE

BRIDE HAS A BLAST TRASHING HER WEDDING DRESS

- RECORD REPORTER reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

MOST brides would be devastated by the slightest smudge on their wedding gown. But Sammy Birnie had her white dress covered in mud, paint and champagne – and was thrilled to bits.

Two weeks after their big day, Sammy and husband Mike drove to a friend’s estate to take part in the Trash the Dress craze.

Sammy, 29, said: “I wanted to do something more with my wedding dress than put it in a box and stuff it in the loft. I wanted to squeeze a few more memories out of it before I put it away.”

The couple, from Banchory, Aberdeenshire, took part in a wacky photoshoot capturing priceless moments, including a screaming Sammy being showered in mud when Mike plunged into a filthy puddle.

Mike also had his good suit thoroughly trashed.

Sammy, a logistics supervisor, said: “I was nervous at first about getting even a wee bit of mud on the dress but once the first bit hit, I just went for it.

“I was screaming because it was absolutely freezing but it was great fun. I loved it.”

The couple had planned the stunt a few weeks before their wedding after seeing the trend on the internet.

Some of the ideas came from previous Trash the Dress shoots but one of their favourites, when Mike was lifted by a mechanical gripper, was all theirs.

Mike – who proposed to Sammy by painting “Will you marry me?” on the walls of their new home – said: “It was a great laugh. It was the most fun we could have had, apart from our wedding day.”

The bride has now put the dress in the dry cleaners and insists it isn’t ruined.

But mechanic Mike, 24, said: “We have amazing pictures to keep forever and Sammy doesn’t need the dress. It’s not like she is ever going to get married again.”
