GERSWILL STOP CELTS INVINCIBLES

CLINT

- MICHAEL GANNON

CLINT HILL insists Rangers are the side to shatter Celtic’s Invincibles bid. The Gers defender can’t wait to have a crack at the Parkhead men at Ibrox on Hogmanay and he’s determined to end Brendan Rodgers’s unbeaten start to the domestic season. The Hoops have grabbed an incredible 52 points out of 54 in the Premiership and bagged the Betfred Cup in a relentless first half of the campaign. The league leaders have also roasted Rangers in the two Old Firm clashes this term but Hill believes the Light Blues can turn the tables at Ibrox on Saturday. He said: “When you are

TOMMY WRIGHT is happy to hand Rangers everything in Perth tomorrow night but the gift of goals.

The St Johnstone boss will not be worried if his players give up too much of the ball because possession, in football, isn’t always nine tenths of the law.

Saints won 3-1 in the League Cup at Ibrox last season with only 38 per cent of the play and had four per cent less in their 1-1 draw in the Premiership in October.

Wright said: “I like possession football but it’s not the be all and end all because the facts show it’s not always the team with most possession who wins.

“We played Motherwell here recently and had 65 per cent possession but didn’t win the game.

“It’s all about where you have possession and what you do with the ball when you’ve got it. If we move the ball well and get it into Rangers’ half then we can cause them problems.

“Rangers won four in a row which is a good stat if you’re at another club. But there it’s just a stat because you are expected to win every game.”

Wright is content to whisper his expectations for Saints this term, rather than shout from the rooftops.

His side sit fourth and the Saints boss said: “Rangers will finish second, although Aberdeen in particular and Hearts will have something to say about that.

“At Saints we like to keep things nice and quiet. We’ve only lost six games and have a great away record. Whether we can get enough wins to break into the three above us, who knows?”
