Barry: There is no turning Clyde now

- EWAN SMITH

BARRY FERGUSON admitted Clyde’s League Two title fight is over after they lost a seven-goal thriller at leaders Forfar.

The Bully Wee led the game twice, having scored through Ewan McNeil, David Gormley and Peter MacDonald.

But late goals from Jim Lister and David Cox won it for Forfar – who had netted earlier through Gavin Swankie and Martyn Fotheringham – to open up a 13-point gap over Clyde.

Ferguson said: “We lost the game due to joke defending and we won’t win the league now.”

Forfar took the lead in 10 minutes with Swankie smashing home from 18 yards.

But Clyde drew level in 21 minutes as McNeil blasted a long-ranger into the top corner.

The visitors began to get at a grip on the game and their pressure paid off with Gormley heading in a deep MacDonald free-kick to make it 2-1 at the break. But it was Forfar who scored after half-time with Fotheringham racing on to a Cox through ball to drill under Bully Wee keeper John Gibson.

Clyde took the lead again in 68 minutes as Gormley was tripped in the box by Jamie Bain to earn his side a penalty.

MacDonald got just enough on his spot-kick strike to beat Grant Adam. But sub Lister restored parity for a third time with an 81st-minute header.

And Cox headed home a Bain cross to snatch a last-gasp winner for Forfar to move them seven points clear at the top.

Loons boss Gary Bollan said: “Nothing is decided. We won’t take anything for granted.”
