One in five are at a loss over tax

NEARLY one in five people who have filled in a tax return think they may have made a mistake that has cost them money, a survey claims.

A study by consumer magazine Which? found people struggle to understand rules surrounding property income tax. Others said they were bamboozled by regulations about dividend income, pension contributions or rates and allowances for savings income.

The deadline for sending 2015-16 self-assessment tax returns online to HMRC is January 31.
