BACK court murder victim Tommy Roberts was recovering from a major operation when he was savagely beaten to death on Christmas Day, friends revealed yesterday.
His pals said he had surgery for a severe back problem that affected his movement.
They believe his condition left him with no chance to defend himself against the musclebound thug who attacked him.
One friend told the Record: “Tommy was walking with a crutch until about a week before Christmas.
“He had a bad back and had just been released from hospital following a major operation.
“He’d have had no chance of getting away, no chance at all. He would have been in no position to defend himself.
“Tommy had intermittent problems with his back for a long time. Even before the operation, you’d sometimes see him using a crutch.

knew him, he would have known all this.” Grandad Tommy, 43, was battered at around 3.30am on Christmas Morning in a back court in Milton, Glasgow. Witnesses say the attacker had a physique like a bodybuilder. They told how he brutalised Tommy for up to 30 minutes, taunted him as he screamed in terror and “paraded” him during the assault.
A friend with Tommy was also attacked. He was later released from hospital.
Tommy lived in Eriboll Street, about 300 yards from the scene of the attack. He leaves wife Angie and daughters Demi, 23, and Brooklyn, 14, and Demi’s toddler daughter.
Neighbours described him as “a quiet guy” and “a gentleman”.
Police were reportedly called to his home on Christmas Eve but locals said it was nothing more than a simple noise complaint.
