Bus fall gran, 82, loses fight for life
AN ELDERLY woman who fell on a bus after it braked sharply has died in hospital.
The 82-year-old great gran suffered serious injuries as she was travelling home from church on the No3 Lothian bus service at about 1pm on December 16.
It was approaching a roundabout on Gilmerton Road in Edinburgh when the driver was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid a car.
Police launched a probe and have since traced the Honda Civic driver.
But the woman died in the early hours of Boxing Day.
Her family, who do not want her named, said: “We are all deeply saddened by this unexpected loss.
“She was a loving mother of four children and, being a woman of faith, this Dalkeith lady was returning from the chapel in Edinburgh when the incident occurred.
“The family, which also includes four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, are devastated and hope anyone who can help with the police inquiry comes forward.”
Sergeant Iain Blain said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this very sad time.
“I’d urge anyone who was in the vicinity to please contact police on 101.”
