Girl drinkers get raw deal

WOMEN who binge drink are portrayed more negatively by the media than men who do the same thing, according to a study.

Researchers at Glasgow University and Glasgow Caledonian University made the finding after analysing 308 articles published over two years in seven UK national papers.

They typically linked girls’ drinking to impacts on appearance and presented them as haggard, vulnerable and socially transgressive.
