Wright: I’ll drive on to world title
PETER WRIGHT insists the World Championship trail doesn’t tyre him out.
Snakebite faces Jamie Lewis tonight in a secondround match looking to go one better after losing the 2014 final to Dutchman Michael van Gerwen.
Wright is among the favourites for this year’s title – but admits he might have quit darts and gone back to working on cars had he not made that stunning run three years ago.
The Scotland World Cup star said: “At the beginning of that tournament, me and my wife Jo said: This is our last one if I don’t do well.
“I wouldn’t have been able to play the following season. It had come to that.
“I would have gone back to work and just played local leagues. I would have been a tyre and exhaust fitter. Servicing cars, stuff like that.
“But the final got me into the Premier League, and the World Series of Darts.
“I knew I had a chance. Other players got to my position, not worked hard and dropped down the rankings.
“I’m up to No.3. My target is No.2 by the end of next year. I’ll win a world title, whether it’s this year or next.”
