DEREK RIORDAN is back in football after joining League Two Edinburgh City.

The former Hibs, Celtic and Scotland forward, 34, has penned a deal with the Meadowbank part-timers until the end of the season as they bid to beat relegation in their first SPFL campaign.

Riordan, without a club since leaving York last summer, has also turned out for St Johnstone, East Fife, Alloa and Bristol Rovers.

City boss Gary Jardine hopes Riordan can rediscover the form that made him a Hibs hero, scoring 90 goals in two stints at Easter Road.

He said: “Derek comes with real experience and has scored goals at the highest level. His coming in at this point in the season will give the club a real lift as we enter the final quarter of the season.” MORTON striker Jai Quitongo, 19, has signed a contract extension until June 2018.

A transfer target for clubs here and in England earlier this season, Quitongo has opted to stay at Cappielow as he continues his recovery from a knee operation.

Morton boss Jim Duffy said: “He is a young talent and it’s great he agreed remaining at Morton is the right move for him.” STENHOUSEMUIR have won the race to sign ex-Falkirk and Arbroath midfielder Thomas Grant – son of former Aberdeen player Brian – released by League One Fleetwood. ALBION ROVERS have signed Dundee United midfielder Brad Smith on loan until the summer. BERWICK boss John Coughlin has forgiven David Verlaque – sent off as a trialist in their win over Forfar – and signed the former Morton full-back until the end of the season.
