MOVING ON MAY BE A DUN DEAL

- EUAN MCARTHUR sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

DUNDEE supremo John Nelms last night dropped the heaviest hint yet that the club’s future lies away from Dens Park.

Nelms has lifted the lid on bold plans to build a new purpose-built modern-day stadium.

It would see the Taysiders leave their current home – where they’ve been since 1893 – and move to a new state-of-the-art facility on the outskirts of the city near Camperdown Park.

The Dark Blues have been locked in talks over the past 12 months with council chiefs in a bid to fulfil their dream which is being driven by American owner Tim Keyes.

And Nelms has told how they’re stepping up plans to pull it off as excitement begins to mount in the City of Discovery.

Director of football operations Nelms said: “We’re aware we’re trying to give a 21st century entertainment product in a 19th century building.

“It’s not new news that Tim and I have bought 29 acres near the ice rink at Camperdown Park.

“We will be putting away an application shortly that we hope really enhances Dundee Football Club.

“We think the type of event we’re going to be able to put on will be the future of Dundee FC. We’re quite excited about it although it’s early doors.

“We don’t really want to talk about it until we get to certain levels.

“There are still a lot of hoops to jump through.

“There are a lot of meetings still to have.

“But I can tell you we’ve been working on this for the past year even before we purchased the property.

“Everyone at the city council has been fantastic, working on something which we all see as being very big for the city.

“All the consultants we’ve been working with have been great and we’ve been travelling about to try and future-proof as much as possible.

“We want to make it work and be exciting seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

“We want it to be a jewel for the City of Discovery and Dundee.

“I’ll give updates when it’s appropriate but this is news to everyone. The stadium is the biggest issue.

“We’ve put £200,000 into the ground and that’s not enhancing it. It’s just keeping it going.

“We’re assuming those conditions are just going to get worse and worse as time goes on.”
