THE “unexplained” death of a four-month-old baby is being investigated by police.

Calvin Montgomery fell ill at home and passed away in hospital.

Results from a post-mortem examination were inconclusive.

Tributes to Calvin were posted on Facebook. Suzanne Scott wrote: “Sleep tight with the angels.”

Calvin’s mum Kirsty Adam said her son was born prematurely in October, weighing just 3lb 8oz.

He was treated in special care before being readmitted to hospital for six weeks with respiratory virus bronchiolitis.

Kirsty, 36, entered Calvin into an online baby contest days before he died on February 15.

She described him as a “wee soldier” and said he was “loved very much” by her and his dad Nicky Montgomery, 27.

On February 4, Kirsty said Calvin was doing well. She added: “Always smiling, making his mum and dad very proud as he is a handsome boy and a wee fighter.”

In another post, Kirsty said: “So proud of our wee soldier.”

Kirsty and Nicky, of Balloch, Dunbartonshire, are understood to be staying with relatives following the tragedy.

They could not be contacted yesterday.

Neighbours said they heard nothing on the morning Calvin was taken by paramedics to hospital in Paisley from the family’s flat. But a source said the boy had “turned blue”.

Messages of support were left for Kirsty and Nicky on Facebook, along with tributes to the baby.

Sally Hutcheson said: “Fly high beautiful boy.”

Lana Kennedy described Calvin as a “beautiful wee soldier that blessed the heavens.” And a relative, Tony Montgomery, wrote: “Sleep tight wee man. ”

A police spokeswoman said yesterday that an investigation was ongoing.

She added: “We were informed a four-month-old baby from Dumbain Crescent, Balloch, had died in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

“Following a post-mortem examination, officers are treating the death as unexplained. Inquiries are continuing.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were on the scene within five minutes of receiving an emergency call.

He said: “We received a call at 10.29am on February 15 to attend an incident at an address on Dumbain Crescent, Balloch.

“We dispatched an urgent tier ambulance and a paramedic response unit. The first unit arrived on scene at 10.34am.”
