COUNCILS spent more than £1million on chicken from Thailand to be used in school meals last year.

Despite campaigns by the Scottish Government to buy local produce, councils import turkey, beef, ham and other food from abroad.

The figures, released under freedom of information, also showed more than £125,000 was spent on carrots from Belgium and £125,000 on mashed potato products from France.

Alison Johnstone, health spokeswoman for the Scottish Greens – who first raised the issue in 2013 – said: “It’s disappointing that, three years on from our investigation, this remains a problem.” A DAD whose baby son lost an arm made a prosthetic replacement using an Xbox and a 3D printer. Ben Ryan, 40, decided to build a DIY arm for Sol after being told there was nothing the NHS could do until he was a year old. Ben said: “I thought I could do better for my son.” Sol, who is now two, was born with a clot in his left arm in 2015 and medics advised amputation. Ben, then a psychology POLICE investigating the disappearance of Corrie McKeague have questioned a man after arresting him on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The 26-year-old was bailed by Suffolk Constabulary yesterday after being quizzed about information he gave to the probe.

RAF gunner and dad-to-be Corrie, from Dunfermline, lecturer, worked on his kitchen table with copper pipe and plumbing fittings to come up with an idea for a new design of prosthetic arm that vanished after a night out in Bury St Edmunds on September 24.

Officers have confirmed the man arrested is not the driver of a lorry which collected rubbish from the area where Corrie, 23, was last seen.

His mum, Nicola Urquhart, 47, said yesterday: “It could be would operate a hand using tiny movements of the elbow.

Ben, of Anglesey, Wales, then asked an innovation lab at Bangor University for help.

Using a 3D printer, Ben and university staff were able to create a practical design and Ben used a £20 Microsoft Xbox Kinect scanner to scan Sol’s arm while he was asleep, ensuring the device fitted.

Ben, who has since set up prosthetics business, Ambionics, said: “There is evidence that the earlier function can be introduced the better.” something really major or it could turn out to be nothing at all. We don’t know who has been arrested.

“It’s a very anxious time for the whole family.”

Dad Martin McKeague, 48, added on social media: “There are a number of lines of inquiry the police are pursuing so we’ll wait and see what we find out about this one.” Police also released new footage of potential witnesses who were in the area when Corrie was last seen.

Corrie, whose girlfriend April, 21, found out she was pregnant two weeks after the airman disappeared, separated from his friends after spending the evening at a nightclub.
