on the NHS. At the moment, it is only given after individual patient treatment requests – and only a handful of women have been approved under the scheme.

Anne said: “There is provision to negotiate but it is always ‘as soon as we can’ from the Government.

“What they don’t understand is women like me who are diagnosed with metastatic disease don’t have the luxury of time on their side. They need access to effective drugs immediately.

“This new development of drugs would appear to gift us more time – but time is of the essence. I don’t think they really understand the urgency.

“I don’t know why they are dragging their heels.

“There should be no difference between providing drugs that people need to keep them alive Sign the petition at breastcancernow. org/unlockkadcyla and treating someone after a road traffic accident.”

Next week, the Scottish Medicines Consortium will meet Roche, who make Kadcyla, and decide if the drug can be offered to women on the NHS in Scotland.

Anne is one of a group of women who have teamed up with Breast Cancer Now to launch a petition – backed by the Record – calling for Roche and the SMC to reach a deal on the life-changing treatment.

Anne, who has moved from Elgin to Larbert, near Falkirk, said Kadcyla has given her so much.

She added: “I was able to mark my sons’ birthdays and spend another Christmas with them.

“It is not just about creating memories now – I am living life with them and shaping their ideals and values. I feel so well. It is a wonderful drug for me.” added: “Roche are committed to pricing medicines responsibly and this re-submission is based on a Patient Access Scheme which improves the value of Kadcyla to NHS Scotland.

“We are hopeful that our submission and proposed revised scheme are acceptable to the SMC.

“The whole premise of the SMC is to look at value and the price is part of that, as well as the outcomes patients receive from getting the medicine.

“If the SMC think our application is not viable this time, we will have to go away and think what can be done to make it viable.

“We will continue with our fight.”

The SMC will review the submission on Tuesday and final guidance is expected in the next few months.

If a deal is reached, it is estimated that more than 100 patients in the first year will be eligible for treatment with Kadcyla in Scotland.

The spokesman said: “We are working hard with SMC and NHS Scotland to make sure we are getting access for Scottish patients at a realistic price.”

I can do exactly what I did before the cancer. It’s a wonderful drug for me ANNE
