DETECTIVES have seized more than two million fake Valium pills in a swoop on an industrial unit.

The haul in Paisley is believed to contain former legal high etizolam.

And police revealed the tablets have a street value of more than £2.08million.

Pressure for action has been growing since The Record revealed scores of deaths have been linked to the “blue plague” of fake diazepam, also known as Valium.

The premises in the town’s Back Sneddon Street was raided on Wednesday as part of an investigation.

At the same time, houses were searched in Osprey Crescent, Paisley, and Blackwood Terrace, Johnstone.

Police confirmed three men, aged 43, 42 and 38, have been arrested in connection with alleged offences against the New Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.

Detective Inspector Suzanne Chow said: “Psychoactive substances can be as harmful as controlled drugs.

“In all cases, users just do not know what they are taking or what the effects could be.

“They cause significant harm in communities and we will always take action against those who are alleged to be involved in the manufacturing or supply of any controlled drug or substance.”

In January, we revealed six friends from Toryglen in Glasgow had died in just nine months after taking deadly street Valium.

The Record has warned millions of fake Valium pills are on the streets.

And drug workers fear they have played a part in hundreds of deaths.

Three friends from Renfrew who died within 10 days of each other are believed to have taken fake diazepam pills.

Young mum Kirsty Gilchrist, 29, died at a home in Sunart Street, Renfrew, on June 9 and her friend Natasha McCann, 26, also a mum, died in the same street a week later.

Their pal Hannah McNocher, 20, died at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital after taking ill at home in George Street on

June 19.
