A SCHOOLGIRL suffered serious chemical burns to her hands after making “unicorn slime”.

Deejay Jemmett, 10, has been referred to a plastic surgeon after her hands were left “red raw” and covered in blisters by goo she made using an online guide.

Her mother last night warned parents about the kids’ craze.

Rebekha D’Stephano bought her daughter the materials needed to make the goo – also known as “rainbow” or “tie-dye” slime – thinking it was harmless fun.

She appealed to parents: “Don’t let them do this. It can be dangerous.”

Deejay made the slime following instructions that suggested using borax, a strong and potentially toxic cleaning chemical. Rebekha, of Prestwich, Greater Manchester, got her daughter fabric detergent instead, believing it was safe.

But she said: “Within 48 hours, her skin had started to peel off.

“We took her to the doctor and he said she had chemical burns. We’ve been referred to a burns unit to see a plastic surgeon.

“She is struggling to write and to hold a knife and fork. She’s in pain.”

Deejay, a pupil at St Luke’s Primary in Salford, was following a craze sweeping schools in which kids make slime using glue, washing-up liquid, shaving foam and even contact lens solution.
