GROOM RAPED STRANGER THEN MARRIED PREGNANT FIANCEE
Attacker will be jailed for a ‘very long time’
A CONVICTED rapist attacked a woman on the day of his wedding after a judge warned he would strike again.
Derry McCann, 28, dragged the 24-year-old into a park at night and repeatedly raped her just a year after he was released from a life sentence.
Hours later McCann got married and posted pictures with his pregnant wife on Facebook.
Jailing him for rape in 2006, a judge warned he posed a “risk of committing similar offences in the future”.
But he was released after completing the minimum nine years of his sentence and was being monitored at the time of the attack on January 13.
Harry Fletcher, of campaign group Voice 4 Victims, said: “Victims have been put at risk and a full inquiry needs to look at the standard of supervision in this case.” McCann played “mind games” with his victim after dragging her into undergrowth in London’s Victoria Park – taunting her by asking what she thought he would do next. He was arrested and charged six days later.
Judge Martyn Zeidman QC said: “You will be going to prison for a very, very long time.” In 2006, at the age of 17, McCann was being monitored after a burglary when he preyed on a 30-year-old trainee lawyer in an east London park in May 2006.
McCann, of Bow, east London, admitted three counts of rape, one of assault by penetration, and one of robbery.
He will be sentenced next month.
