SNP smokescreen

READING the First Minister’s latest pronouncements on Brexit, made to the David Hume Institute, I cannot help being reminded of Queen Gertrude’s line in Hamlet: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

This leads me to a further observation that when the day job appears to become a little overwhelming and domestic policies are being questioned daily, a smokescreen is created to divert attention.

Then again, of course, there is a propensity of picking fights with Westminster on perceived grievances, real or imaginary. John Newall, Drumore, Campbeltown, Argyllshire

Gone fishing?

WITH the EU’s fishing committee calling for access to UK waters post-Brexit, will this become a bargaining chip for Whitehall to give away so other industries get unrestricted single market access?

The UK Government’s refusal to state devolved parliaments will gain control over this area is worrying for those in the fishing industry who voted leave thinking they would take back control.

Grateful for NHS

THE NHS, and Wishaw General in particular, often get bad press.

However, in the coronary care unit, where my family are saying goodbye to our beloved mother, we’ve experienced an exceptionally high standard of compassion and care every step of the way from all staff involved.

We will leave Wishaw General full of gratitude and thankful that we have the privilege of the NHS.
