Cup double would be Devine for Thistle’s Dan

- ANTHONY HAGGERTY

DANNY DEVINE is eyeing a dream Scottish Cup double with Partick Thistle after triumphing with Inverness in 2015.

The Northern Irishman helped Caley beat Falkirk 2-1 to lift the Cup at Hampden.

Now Devine believes the Jags can emulate the Highland men’s success ahead of their quarterfinal clash with Aberdeen on Sunday.

He said: “Thistle’s Cup exploits are similar to the Inverness run.

“We had quality players there just like we have here. I looked at the squad in the changing room after coming in and I saw that same quality.

“Hopefully we keep looking up the table and going in the Cup.

“What’s the point in being in the competition if you don’t try to win it?

“We’ve already seen that with teams like Killie, Ross County, Inverness, St Mirren, St Johnstone and Hibs who have all won cups recently.”

It’s not just Cup glory that Devine is targeting this season.

Alan Archibald’s men head to the Granite City full of confidence after beating Dundee 1-0 to move up to sixth in the Premiership.

Devine believes they can keep their winning run going and remain at the top end of the table.

He said: “We’ve really tightened up and been scoring goals, so that top-six finish is definitely what we’re aiming for.”
