ALEX SCHALK admits he’s gutted at being forced to wait a week to get a crack at Inverness Caley Thistle.

The Ross County striker is champing at the bit for the local Highland derby after his team kept up their aims of a top-six finish with a sparkling 1-0 midweek win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Schalk’s strike moved County five points clear of their neighbours in the race to beat the drop but hopes at Dingwall are set far higher.

With sixth-placed Partick Thistle just five points ahead they haven’t given up hope of being in the top half after the split.

And Schalk wishes the clash against Inverness was tomorrow – and not on March 18 – with his side building real momentum.

He said: “We were on a bad run and beating Hearts was really important. There was a lot of pressure on us with the Hamilton victory on Tuesday and I think we did brilliantly.

“It was fantastic and I’m glad to be the goalscorer, I needed that myself.

“The shape we’re using is working pretty good and we rewarded ourselves after we’ve been a bit unlucky over the past couple of weeks.

“It was a great feeling to get three points again and hopefully we go on a good run. We’ve got the ability to finish top six but you need to show your capabilities.

“The Caley game is always special for us, this gives us a boost. I’d rather play them this Saturday but a good rest isn’t bad and we’ll go again.”
