EFE: MY OG ENDED ME AT CELTIC

CELTIC

-

From Back Page moment finished him at Celtic.

And he said: “That was the turning point for me but that’s football.

“After that day I was sad about the reaction but I was just trying to do my job and defend.

“I wasn’t trying to kick the ball in the net, I was just trying to defend. That’s my job, to defend.

“Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong. When that happens, that’s when you need the people’s support.

“I didn’t get it that day but that’s life.

“I am a defender. I tried to stop it but I slipped and the ball bounced off my shin. It can happen to anyone in football.

“When the team is doing well no one picks on anyone. When the team were doing badly they started picking.

“Since Celtic have been winning no one has been playing bad, everyone has been good.

“Yet when they were not doing good that’s when the fans started to pick on players from the team.

“I never regretted anything though, I always tried my best. I always stood up and kept fighting.”

Ambrose now becomes a key figure for injurybattered Hibs as the Championship leaders try to correct a major wobble in their title charge.

Deep down he knows he is finished at the Hoops despite boss Rodgers’s respect for him.

The loan can be a passport to a permanent deal for the Nigeria centre-half.

And he said: “I’m happy to be playing for Neil Lennon and I am happy to be here.

“Hibs are a good club with good players.

“They are a traditional club just like Celtic with a big history.

“For me to be here is a massive opportunity and it is a chance to get myself back into the limelight again.

“Brendan Rodgers told me before I left, ‘You need games’.

“That’s why I am here but it’s not just to get game time, it is to improve the team too and help the team stay on top. Last season was painful for Hibs.

“I watched them lose the play-off. The gaffer has told us that can’t happen again. And the work starts now.

“The St Mirren game has gone. Forget it.

“We have to start all over. We need to step up. We don’t need to bury our heads in the sand.

“We need to go back and work on what went wrong on the training pitch and graft hard.”
