GETTING on the property ladder can be murder – especially if you have your sights set on this suburban bungalow.

Fans of gritty crime drama may think it looks familiar.

And that’s because the house, in Giffnock, near Glasgow, was home to TV detective Jim Taggart for many years.

In the show, Jim, played by Mark McManus, shared it with his wife Jean.

Owner William McGregor, who is selling the home for offers over £430,000, was not around when filming took place at the bungalow in Percy Drive.

McManus died in 1994, five years before the McGregor family moved in.

However, such was the popularity of the show, which ran until 2010, that William was regularly reminded of his home’s claim to fame.

He said: “No sooner had we moved in, than everyone we met locally was reminding me about it.

“One chap in the bowling club came up to me and asked, ‘Do you know you live in Taggart’s house?’ Others would come up and ask you if there has been a murder, which was funny the first time.”

William admits he kept a lookout for back episodes of the show, to see if they featured clips of Jean and Jim in his living room.

He said: “The house would pop up two or three times in a season. The best shot was one night when Taggart went outside with a whisky in his hand.”

In reality, the house is far larger than the one which appeared on telly. There are five bedrooms over two levels, something that viewers were never shown.

The sliding doors on the ground door, which were ideal for wheelchair user Jean, have been replaced with traditional wooden doors.

Upstairs provided almost a separate apartment for Willliam’s two sons as they were growing up.

And, as far as we’re aware, it has never been home to a homicide.
