A MAN died after he was found injured in a street in the early hours of yesterday.

The 24-year-old, who had not been named last night, passed away on a road after police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

Police were treating the death in East Kilbride as “unexplained” yesterday.

Police taped off a roundabout and part of Lochranza Drive in the Lindsayfield area of the town.

A police tent was set up in the middle of the road while forensics officers worked at the scene. A grey Renault Megane was parked on the roundabout.

Police would not confirm whether the man was thought to be the victim of a collision.

People living close by described being woken by emergency services arriving at the scene just after 2.20am.

One said: “A girl with no shoes on was sitting in a police car with her legs out while the paramedics worked on the man in the road.

“She was trying to go over and they were telling her to stay in the car. At one point they went over and she got upset. She started shouting, ‘No, no’.”

Another neighbour said his wife had heard an “altercation” between a taxi driver, a woman and man in the early hours but said they were unsure if it was connected.

Officers woke other residents of Lochranza Drive in the early hours to ask if they had seen anything.

Police said more information on the victim would be released after a post mortem, which is expected to be carried out today.

A spokeswoman said: “At around 2.20am, a 24-year-old man was found injured at Lochranza Drive on the junction of Lindsayfield Road.

“Emergency services attended but he died a short time later.

“A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.

“Police are treating the death as unexplained and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
