GAME’S A BOGEY FOR JAMIESON

Jamieson slumps in last-day disaster

SCOTT JAMIESON’S horror final round sent him tumbling from the head of the pack to a dozen shots from victory in the Tshwane Open.

Jamieson went into the last day in Pretoria as joint leader at 13 under par but crashed with a shock seven-over 78 for a share of 22nd spot at six under.

South African Dean Burmester, with a pair of weekend 65s, won by three shots on 18 under.

Jamieson was seeking only his second Tour victory in three years since capturing the 2014 Nelson Mandela title also in South Africa.

But after bogeying three of his opening four holes the 33-year old was never again in the hunt.

Jamieson then took a double bogey at eight in finding water guarding the green and although the Scot birdied the next he then posted back-to-back double bogeys at 12 and 13.

A birdie at the last offered little joy – it was his worst round since a 78 in August’s Made in Denmark title.

And it continues a poor last-round trend for Jamieson as only once in six events this year has he broken par on day four. In 16 events last year, when only just holding onto his card, he managed to shoot sub-70 only three times on a final day.

Richie Ramsay also birdied the last in a round of 68 to finish the leading Scot at nine under – two clear of Duncan Stewart (70) with Marc Warren (73) on six under alongside Jamieson.

Burmester – who has won six times on the Sunshine Tour – said: “I sharpened my teeth on the Big Easy Tour at home and I think I had five second-placed finishes one year.

“Two years later I won four times so I’ve gone from strength to strength and now I’m a European Tour winner which feels great.”

Edoardo Molinari got with the spirit of proposed new changes announced by the R&A last week as he and playing partner Keenan Davidse finished in seven minutes short of three hours.

The Italian tweeted: “Hey, could this be one of the quickest rounds ever – 2h 53mins for 18 holes in a 2-ball? And we both shot under par.”
