We handed it to Hibees
PETER HOUSTON fears Falkirk and their promotion rivals will be kicking themselves if Hibs win the race for the Championship title.
Bairns passed up a golden chance to put pressure on the leaders at the weekend when they lost to Morton.
Had they won, after Hibs’ surprise draw at home to Dumbarton, they would have moved within four points of the Easter Road outfit who they face in the capital on Saturday.
But instead of looking to close the gap to just a point they will still be four behind even if they do manage a first win of the season against Hibs this weekend.
Falkirk boss Houston reckons all of the title challengers have failed to take full advantage of the Leith side’s slip-ups.
He said: “We’re still in a decent position. Results below us went better but there was an opportunity missed with Hibs dropping a couple of points. There have been opportunities we’ve missed this season. We might have been a lot closer.
“Every other team, Morton and to a lesser extent Dundee United, have had opportunities to close that gap.
“Hibs haven’t had to be consistent, that’s the disappointing thing.
“But we’ve nobody to blame but ourselves for not being closer. We should have more points. When I look back, with a bit of luck, better play, better defending, taking our chances – we could be a lot closer.
“It’s a league where we say, ‘What if?’ and that’s frustrating.”
