OK Google, will my baby be a ginger?

Internet searches reveal mums’ worries

THE most common question asked by mums-to-be on Google is: “Will my baby be ginger?”

A study found pregnant women had bizarre concerns their tot could turn out to be a redhead like singer Ed Sheeran or Scots actress Karen Gillan.

And in an image-obsessed world, other major worries were: “What if my baby is born ugly?”, “Will my baby have curly hair?” and “Will my baby have blue eyes?”

The list, compiled by digital marketing agency Search Laboratory, found fears that the baby may be allergic to the family cat also gave women the jitters.

They discovered that the phrase “parenting tips” got around 8100 hits a month while “how to be a good parent” was searched for 2400 about times a month.

The survey also found mums were no less anxious after the baby is born.

The No1 concern was: “Why is my baby’s poo green?” followed by “Why is my baby crying?” They also bombarded Google with off-the-wall questions like “Why does my baby grunt?” and “Why is my baby’s hair receding?”

Other searches included “Why doesn’t my baby blink?” and “Why is my baby so windy?”

Baby’s bad breath, a drop in body temperature and tots having an orange nose also had mums reaching for their iPads and smartphones.

Sarah Redshaw, of Babycentre.co.uk said: “From the moment mums find they’re pregnant they are hungry for information.

“In the past, they didn’t have information at their fingertips but had to rely on books, friends or family. Now mums can look online and not feel the embarrassment of asking other people.”
